Welcome to Food Finders

Food Finders is a multiregional food bank and food rescue program headquartered in Signal Hill, CA.We pick up donated foodfromhundreds of local grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants and produce markets and distribute it directly to missions, shelters andsocial serviceagencies to feed the needy and impoverished. Our volunteers and staff drivers pick up and deliver on a same-day basis. On average, Food Finders helps provide 40,000meals a day, reducing the amount of food insecurity prevalent throughout Southern California.

April Update: Last month we collected just over 530,000 pounds of food! Our Feinstein Challenge participation included monetary donations for March/April as well, and we received a total of $1,298,349 in overall contributions to count for the Challenge. We can't thank everyone enough!

A Swingin' Good Time

Saturday, April 21st celebrated Food Finders' 23 years of rescuing food. And what a fun night---Jan Mongell led a swing lesson and after that, the band struck up a song and the rest is history! Thank you to our instructor, band, DJ Mark, Bartender Michael, food donors, and everyone else who helped make our first Swing Dance a success!

Longfellow Elementary in Long Beach:

Green Ribbon School and Waste Reduction Partner

This year, Longfellow was chosen as one of just four schools to represent California in the new federal Green Ribbon Schools program. The school campus recycling program has become second nature to the students, who recycle wrappers and containers leftover from lunches.

School parent Heather Morrisonhas been instrumental in making sure any food leftovers, such as carrot packs, milks and yogurts, get delivered to Food Finders daily after each lunch period ends. A network of conscientious parents takes turns transporting the items via cooler to our partner agencies within the community.

What a great accomplishment on behalf of Longfellow! Thanks for making a positive impact on our community and for setting a fantastic example for other youth.

If you know of other schools that would like to implement afood reuse and redistribution program, contact us today! 562-598-3003.
