St. Francis Rest Home is located in a peaceful neighborhood of Santa Ana, providing residential care for the elderly. The facility is surrounded by well-maintained gardens and grottos filled with benches and fountains. I get there in time to join-in on the last few minutes of their daily prayers held in the facility’s beautiful and quaint chapel filled with Franciscan Sisters, residents, incense and music.
Afterwards, I have a chance to tour the St. Francis home with their administrator, Sr. Elia. The home currently has 68 residents and I am greeted by many of them as I walk through the hallways and common areas. Sr. Elia points out two original pieces of artwork painted by previous residents that are proudly hung up and appreciated. She also walks me by their in-house hair salon where one of the Sisters is giving a resident a hair permanent.
The home is warm and welcoming – its accommodations are cheerful, homey and comfortable. St. Francis Home serves their residents breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Food Finders has been a partner with them for over six years and currently facilitates food donations for their residents’ needs twice a week from a local Albertson’s and once a week from a Red Lobster restaurant. St. Francis Home is celebrating their 70th anniversary and will be throwing a party later this month – Food Finders has plans to happily provide drinks and tortillas for their “Fiesta”.
