Embracing the theme of “Share Your Table,” we’re dedicated to raising $20,000 for our Food Rescue Program. This ambitious goal will provide 220,000 meals to communities in need.

In 2023, Food Finders has made remarkable strides, rescuing over 10 million pounds of food and delivering more than 5 million meals to agencies supporting our community. Despite these accomplishments, the battle against hunger persists. Recent surveys conducted with Los Angeles County residents have unveiled a troubling trend: 3 in 10 households (30%) are grappling with food insecurity, a 6 percentage-point increase from 2022. Factors such as inflation, elevated food prices, and the termination of pandemic-era CalFresh emergency allotments contribute to this rise.

Compounding this issue is the startling fact that Californians discard approximately 6 million tons of food waste annually, as reported by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. This not only exacerbates the challenges faced by those experiencing hunger but also significantly impacts our planet’s health. Surprisingly, waste stands as the third-largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to global warming.

Food Finders’ food rescue program stands as a beacon in the fight against both hunger and environmental degradation. By rescuing surplus food and redistributing it to those in need, we ensure that nutritious meals reach the tables of individuals and families facing food insecurity, simultaneously aiding in the reduction of global warming.
